Food! A topic so discussed these days. How many discoveries in the field of nutrition in the last 10 years have disrupted ancient culinary cultures and generated total confusion.

Everyone shouts out his own among all kinds of alimentations, maintenance diets and weight-loss diets, not easy to understand between the primitive diet, the macrobiotic diet, the vegetarian, the Mediterranean, the one of the raw, the detoxifying, the proteins, and now the most prosperous and famous of all, the Dukan.

And then they talk of people suffering from eating disorders and it seems to me this is the least in this chaos! You have to be strong in order to maintain a discipline, having to constantly deal with your own lifestyle, with what you inherited by looking at your own mother while growing up, with what each day is the new juicy proposal yelled out from the multinational etc.. Especially in adolescence, it is not just so easy not to get harried by all these inputs. Come on let's be honest, it is not just the fault of the designers, as some would have us believe, it would be simplistic to think once again just so, the problem is much bigger and more complex.

It becomes very difficult to be faithful and follow a style of eating that is consistent with our real needs, which are many, especially from the moment that also exams, such as that of food intolerances, have made us aware of our extraordinary uniqueness in diversity.

You should know that one of the best ways to stay young, further to take in any form antioxidants, vitamins, do a fair amount of physical activity, have a regular restful with the correct duration, is actually to maintain your weight to stay stable, avoiding it even from its continuous minimal changes. This by far is the rule that allows us to stay young for a long time and especially in health!

Obviously, this said, the day we will need to go on a diet to actually lose weight and not to maintain it, we will realize that something that should bot be violated has actually been violated: the balance of our body.

We should never get to do the weight loss diet.

How do we do so? By always trying to have a maintainance diet, the diet that always allows us to hold our proper weight, or the easier weight to be maintained.

As I say: learn to eat with your head and not with your stomach!

Once you have learned how to do it, even the "break the rule" will not affect at all on your physical condition. Skeptics listen and see how to do!

The first tip is to make a visit to a specialist doctor who is able to tell us what our ideal weight is.

Our ideal weight is defined in relation to our bodily features, the weight that respects the sacred balance between lean body mass (muscle) and fat mass.

Maybe we would prefer our body to be like the ones shown in the stereotypes we are bombed to see, maybe a couple of pounds leaner than this weight...but please stop! Do not let that happen! That lower weight would not be easy to maintain and it will harm health, so be satisfied!

The second suggestion is to follow the instructions of my dear friend, Professor Berrino that, during an episode of Report on 15 March 2009, he spoke so well of simple rules and common sense without extravagance, summarized below:

-Choose foods of plant origin, cereal grains (barley, wheat, spelled, kamut and oats) wholemeal bread or pasta Full, round wholemeal rice, consumed directly without being processed, alternate the varieties legumes. Eat 5 portions a day of non-starchy vegetables and seasonal fruits.

-Limit your consumption of highly caloric foods and avoid the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (including fruit juices). These foods give us an immediate sense of well-being, but after a short time we feel weak and confused. These are foods with a high glycemic index (eg. Refined flour type 00, all foods and drinks containing sugar, cookies, ice cream, pastries in general, honey). For the same reason we do not recommend mothers to give honey for breakfast and fruit juice for the break at school. The child soon after will struggle to stay focused and will feel weak and sore.

-Limit your consumption of milk and dairy products to be replaced with soy milk (non GMO, organically grown), oats, rice, sugar free almond.

Avoid adding sugar to milk and yogurt. Do not buy yogurt with added fruit, in fact they always have added sugar or other sweetening matters even more harmful (aspartame).

-Limit your consumption of red meats (lamb, pork and beef, including veal) to 3-500 grams a week. Red meats contain a particular form of iron that is a powerful oxidizing agent which also favors the formation of carcinogenic substances in the digestive tract (nitrosamines).

-In the cooking of meats at high temperature, or in prolonged cooking, another class of substances will be formed (heterocyclic amines) that are proved dangerous, particularly for breast and bowel cancers. In addition, the saturated fat content of red meat hinders the proper functioning of insulin. Avoid any preserved preserved (any form of canned meat, sausage, ham, hot dogs), these foods contain nitrites, nitrates and glutamate in the body are transformed into nitrosamines.

-Limit your consumption of salt (no more than 5 gr. per day and use only whole salt) and foods preserved in salt. The excess of salt can cause stomach cancer. Mothers are recommended not to give salty snacks like potato chips and the like to children.

-Restrict your consumption of alcohol. Avoid hard liquor. Do not give alcohol to children. Alcohol hinders the absorption of vitamins and therefore the healthy growth of children. Even the caffeine contained in some soft drinks, hinders the absorption of vitamins. Tea is not a drink for children as it contains theine.

Following and maintaining these easy tips will allow you to return, without any trauma to the body and without any dieting, to your optimum weight, while maintaining it easily.
